Under the banner of the transavantgarde
Kamel Ben Youssef, Elviro Di Meo, November 21, 2006
Gino Finizio is a reference point in international design – design management to be precise – a profession he defines as “the integration of business culture and project culture; the meeting point of industrial design, strategic marketing, communication and training”. He is an architect, an artist, an author and serves as his own professional manager. He trained in the architecture departments of La Sapienza in Rome, the Politecnico of Milan and the Second University of Naples. A man of deep and complex creativity, Finizio juggles a kaleidoscope of identities, each with its own qualities and purpose. His work has remained faithful to his native Naples, in that he re-explores the fragments of an architectural style where past and future converge under the banner of the transavantgarde – an expression coined by art critic Bonito Oliva – combined with the entrepreneurial flair of Milan, a throughly modern European business centre. Finizio developed some truly innovative design-related disciplines.

His academic career took him to campuses in Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Greece.

Design Management, says Finizio, applies to the creation of programs that bridge the many cultures that interact with design projects. It is a field that concentrates on the enterprise as a conduit to advanced methods and technology. It serves as a method to harness creativity, innovation and competitive advantage in key design markets. It is both response to and responsible for the worldwide introduction of new-generation products adapted to consumers, the environment and the needs of the market.
