PAALMA (Premio Artista + Architetto La Marrana Arte Ambientale) is the prize aimed at celebrating the synergy between art and architecture. The first edition of PAALMA awarded the project titled "Peace Cloister", outcome of the collaboration between Enzo Cucchi and Ettore Sottsass.

On Thursday February 28th, 2008 at 5.30 pm at the Milan Triennale, La Marrana Arteambientale will present the PAALMA award (Premio Artista + Architetto La Marrana Arte Ambientale). Promoted by Grazia and Gianni Bolongaro, and curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, the award aims at highlighting the potential of the interaction between the language of art and architecture in public art. After the activities they carried out in Montemarcello (Ameglia, La Spezia, Italy), with the installation of works of environmental art created by international artists -among whom are Hossein Golba (1997), Kengiro Azuma (1998), Luigi Mainolfi (1999), Philip Rantzer (2000), Mario Airò and vedovamazzei (2001), Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons (2003), Joseph Kosuth and Jannis Kounellis (2004), Jan Fabre and Ottonella Mocellin & Nicola Pellegrini (2005), Ettore Spalletti and Gabriella Benedini (2006), Hamish Fulton and Claudia Losi (2007)- Grazia and Gianni Bolongaro, art collectors and creators of La Marrana arteambientale, devised an award that aims at awakening public administrations and citizens to the realization of works that are the outcome of a close collaboration between artists and architects.

The award will be at the center of attention during the congress. Coordinated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, the speakers are exponents of artistic and architectural culture: Stefano Boeri, Alberto Garutti, Franco Farinelli, Fulvio Irace. At the conclusion of the congress, the first PAALMA award will be introduced and will be conferred to the "Peace Cloister," designed by Enzo Cucchi and Ettore Sottsass within the University of Salerno, Italy.
